Oh, and Vol De Nuit for the Frites. And Stand for the onion rings (Stand is a few short blocks outside your scope, but absolutely worth the trip for the onion rings.

I really like Vol de Nuit (sp?) on West 4th, right near Babbo. Blind Tiger Ale House is also pretty close. It’s a venerable beer bar.
