Any good Trader Joe's wines lately?

I picked up a couple for Wine Blogging Wednesday last week. An absolute steal was Ulrich Langguth Riesling (Germany) for only $5.99, and the Trimbach Alsace Riesling for $15.99 was also delicious (light and crisp, and similar to a...

    Wine for wedding-help?

't overpowering, the trout. One of the Frank wines would be fun. You could also look to Alsace (Trimbach and Hugel both make fine affordable dry Rieslings, though there are many other excellent producers) or Germany (I’m...

    Eating in France

I’ve bought 3 bottles of Alsatian wines as souvenirs – 2 Trimbach rieslings, an 89 late harvest and a 97 reserve, as well as a Hugel Tokay PG (the noble rot version) '90. As for foie gras, I’ve had enough for...

with Vietnamese food. Larry brought a Trimbach riesling (From the 1990s but I spaced on the year.) I brought a 1990 Weingut Max Ferdinand Richter Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese that was nice and the only dud wine of the...

    Which White? Chicken/lime/cilantro

In that price range ($15 or less), I would recommend a Riesling or Gewurztraminer from Trimbach, Pierre Sparr or Dr. Loosen. If you like NZ sauvignon blanc, try that as well or (to my palate) a less abrasive style SB from Chile.

    Favorite Boutique French Wines?

I agree with you, Frank, that many consider the archetypal Alsatian wines, esp Riesling, to be bone dry, e.g. Trimbach's grand cru wines. There’s a good amount of variability; wines of grands cru like Bebleheim and Brand in...

my two favorite restaurants- rivoli (berkeley) and tu lan (sf)

. We drank nicely, too. A couple of wine geek/Deadhead friends were in town for the Phil Lesh shows at the Warfield. One brought '99 Ch. Rayas (not worth the $80 tariff, but still decent wine) and the other brought '83 Trimbach...

    SEA: Wines from Alsace

I’m not sure whether this should go here, or in the wines board. I really enjoy white wines from Alsace; especially Gewurztraminer, Riesling, and Pinot Gris. I’ve had a hard time finding any shops in town that have a...

Wine to drink with Thai Food

Matt M.'s right. Riesling's a good choice. Also consider a dry (Alsatian-style) gewurztraminer. Its spiciness is a good foil as well. Avoid the bubble-gum-style of most domestic gewurztraminers though.

    Recs to demonstrate "mineral

Probably a bit out of the budget, but one of the most minerally wines I have ever tasted is the Trimbach Cuvee Frederic Emile Riesling. I enjoyed a 97 on my honeymoon. Bone dry, very little sweetness. This wine literally tastes...
