For faster non-chain food, there’s Yum Kitchen & Bakery, an upscale cafeteria with great soups and salads, and Punch Pizza with counter service on the Minneapolis/SLP border.

Unless you just want coffee shop food, decor and service, I’d avoid Mayrose. Punch, on Broadway between 20th and 21st has a bit of atmosphere and the food is decent, even if the writing style of the menu is cloyingly cutesy.
