Have 9:00pm reservations for Peter Luger next week, but have heard you can often wait a while, even with reservations... should I bring a book and anticipate a wait?

The steaks are just as good as in Brooklyn Peter Luger. The service is much better. No decor to speak of, very plain, but then so is the Brooklyn location. You will have a good time and a great meal.
