Microplane question???
Having priced microplanes at various kitchen supply stores...I have a question. Wouldn’t it be much cheaper to purchase one at a local hardware store? Or are they made from a different material that would react with the... (15 replies, last updated by pitu January 27, 2006)

Are all microplanes the same?
I’ve read on here that some people think that their microplane is one of the best gadgets they have in the kitchen and that some people own several. I’ve only ever used a box grater mostly just for cheese and carrots but grating... (9 replies, last updated by al b. darned August 1, 2009)

It’s out with the box grater and in with the Microplane

Should I adjust amounts when using microplane to grate cheese?
It just occurred to me that when using the microplane I get a lot more “bang for the buck.” So a quarter cup of microplaned cheese is proabably significantly less than when using another method. Any thoughts about... (1 reply, last updated by Miss Needle December 10, 2008)

I've been using my microplane wrong! (Meyer lemon pot de creme)
I love my microplane! But I read an article (I think here on Chow.com) about them, and it mentioned that most people use it wrong: it should be used “upside-down” so the inner curve catches the gratings. I was using it... (22 replies, last updated by millygirl January 2, 2008)

What is the proper way to grate parmesan?
I have many recipes that call for volumes of grated parmesan in portions of a cup (ie. 1/2 cup). There is a big difference in the weight of 1/2 cup parmesan if I grate it with a normal large hole grater versus a microplane versus... (10 replies, last updated by lollya March 26, 2007)
