Another estimable East Bay chocolatine is at La Farine on College Ave. between 63rd St. and Alcatraz, in Oakland, just south of the Berkeley line. It’s definitely a French thing—Montreal had great ones.

My favorite cupcakes are from La Farine. There’s a place in North Berkeley, Love At First Bite (I think) that specializes in cupcakes but I haven’t tried it yet. lafarine.com
